The Grapes of Wrath
Synopsis
The Joads are pushed off their Oklahoma farm in the Dust Bowl and drive west toward work that California has already overpromised. Steinbeck alternates the family’s journey with a wider chorus of migrants, and his anger is specific: the people picking the fruit are not allowed to afford it.
