Rebecca
Synopsis
A shy young woman marries a widower and moves into his Cornish house, Manderley, where the first wife is still the standard everything is measured against. Du Maurier never gives the narrator a name of her own. The absence is the point: Rebecca occupies the book even when she is not in it.
